Description
The German Research Foundation’s Priority Programme “Net-Zero Concrete” (SPP 2436) pursues scientifically grounded ways to reduce concrete’s CO2 footprint and develop climate-neutral concrete. Its research brings together cement chemistry, concrete technology, physical chemistry and materials physics to investigate alternative binders and CO2-free clinker raw materials, waste-based or renewable aggregates, and strategies for binding CO2 in concrete during and after its service life.
The second funding period builds on research into carbon-reduced binders, aggregates that can act as carbon sinks, and CO2 binding or use in new and existing concrete. It also encompasses paste and concrete circularity, recyclability and reactivation, long-term durability and mechanical performance, and processes that could enable Net-Zero concrete. Proposals for this period must connect at least two of the programme’s three research modules.
