The UCLA Center for 17th- and 18th-Century Studies and the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library offer a two-year postdoctoral position beginning July 1, 2027. The fellowship supports a Ph.D. scholar whose humanities research will benefit from sustained work with the Clark Library’s collections.
The Library holds primary-source materials from the 16th through 20th centuries. Research areas include queer, disability, and ecocritical studies; music and musicology; astronomy, geography, and mathematics; games; crime and incarceration; translation; architecture; foodways; and how-to manuals. These holdings offer a broad basis for collection-based scholarship rather than a single prescribed research theme. Collection strengths also include early modern literature, the long 18th century, Oscar Wilde and his circle, book arts, and the history of the book.
