Description
The Getty Scholars Program at the Villa offers residential fellowships to support advanced research on the arts, cultures, and material heritage of antiquity. Scholars reside at the Getty Villa in Malibu, engaging with its world-class collections of Greek, Etruscan, and Roman art, conservation labs, and specialized reference library. The program fosters a vibrant, international scholarly community, encouraging intellectual exchange among curators, conservators, and researchers. Projects typically explore the interconnectedness of the ancient Mediterranean with neighboring regions such as the Near East, Africa, and Europe, from prehistory to Late Antiquity. Priority is given to interdisciplinary, comparative, and transregional approaches aligned with annually selected research themes. Scholars are free from teaching or administrative duties and are expected to participate in weekly lectures and scholarly activities.
