Residential grants for international scholars to conduct innovative research on art and its histories at the Getty Center or Getty Villa, focused on an annual theme.

--- ## Description The Getty Scholars Program offers prestigious residential grants supporting innovative research in art and its histories, broadly defined. Each year, the program selects a cohort of international scholars—including established researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and predoctoral candidates—to pursue projects related to an annual theme. Participants are hosted at the Getty Center or Getty Villa in Los Angeles, where they join a vibrant, interdisciplinary community, benefit from access to the Getty Research Institute’s extensive collections, and are encouraged to share ideas, collaborate, and develop new audiences for their work. Special appointments are available for scholars advancing the study of African American art history. --- ## Due Dates - Application portal opens: July 1, 2025 - Application deadline: October 1, 2025 (for residencies in the 2026–2027 academic year) --- ## Funding Amount - **Scholar Grants (established researchers/professionals):** - 3-month residency: $21,500 - 6-month residency: $43,000 - 9-month residency: $65,000 - **Predoctoral Fellowship:** $30,000 (9 months) - **Postdoctoral Fellowship:** $35,000 (9 months) - All awards include: housing in the Getty scholar complex, travel stipend, workstation, research assistance, and healthcare option. --- ## Eligibility - **Scholar Grants:** Applicants must have received a PhD before September 1, 2022, or possess 5–7 years of commensurate professional experience in a relevant field. - **Postdoctoral Fellowships:** For PhDs granted after September 1, 2022. - **Predoctoral Fellowships:** For PhD candidates who have advanced to candidacy and expect to complete their dissertation during the fellowship. - Open to scholars of any nationality; Getty provides visa support. - After a 6-year waiting period, previous Getty Residential Grant recipients may reapply. - Current Getty staff and their immediate family are not eligible. --- ## Application Process - **Submission:** Applications are submitted via the [Getty Foundation Grant Portal](https://getty.fluxx.io/user_sessions/new).
