The American Physiological Society (APS) presents this award to an individual demonstrating outstanding promise through a research program in respiratory physiology and medicine. The award honors Giles F. Filley, a physician and pulmonary physiologist known for his work in pulmonary medicine, including the Filley Technique for measuring lung diffusion capacity. Because of his long association with the University of Colorado, applicants affiliated with that institution receive preference.
