Description
The New Jersey Department of Agriculture runs this grant through its State Food Purchase Program. It supports organizations doing the hands-on work of harvesting surplus produce from New Jersey farms, orchards and gardens, or recovering surplus seafood from New Jersey fisheries, docks and markets. The food must go to New Jersey organizations that help feed food-insecure residents.
The program complements state food purchases by bringing additional fresh food into the emergency feeding network while reducing waste. Support can help cover the work of moving donated food to receiving organizations, including transportation, directly involved staff, containers, coolers and ice. It can also support volunteer networks and improvements to distribution efficiency.
