The Arnold P. Gold Foundation’s Student Summer Fellowships support student-designed research and service projects related to community health. The program gives medical students opportunities to work directly with patients while developing into compassionate, relationship-centered physicians. Its goals include improving the health and lives of traditionally underserved populations, enhancing cultural humility in care, encouraging collegial and interprofessional teamwork, and promoting lasting or systemic change.
The Foundation defines humanism in healthcare as kind, safe, and trustworthy care, and expects fellows to reflect these values in daily practice. Projects connect students with longitudinal, evidence-based initiatives and community organizations. Selection emphasizes community-identified needs, meaningful patient interaction, sound methods, measurable outcomes, sustainability, and systems change. The Foundation particularly welcomes trauma-informed approaches and work that creates healing-centered environments for healthcare teams, patients, and caregivers.
