Key Information: Open internationally; artists who have received three or more Individual Support Grants are ineligible.

    Description

The Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation’s Individual Support Grant recognizes artists who have dedicated their lives to developing their art, regardless of commercial success. It supports individual painters, sculptors, and printmakers rather than exhibitions, installations, or specific projects. The program encourages sustained artistic commitment while recognizing the personal and financial responsibilities artists may carry.

Applicants must demonstrate at least 20 years of mature artistic practice and current financial need. Maturity is assessed through the intellectual, technical, and creative development evident in the work over time, not the artist’s age. Visual documentation must show sustained commitment to artistic goals and continued active practice. A panel of five independent arts professionals selects recipients annually, with no preference for genre, media, or subject matter within the eligible disciplines.
