Description
The Governor’s University Research Initiative (GURI) is administered by the Texas Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism. Enacted in 2015, it helps eligible Texas public institutions of higher education recruit distinguished researchers to strengthen their research standing and contribute to economic development across the state.
The program focuses on recruitment in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. It gives preference to proposals with a reasonable probability of enhancing Texas’s national and global economic competitiveness. A distinguished researcher may be an individual with a qualifying Nobel, National Academy, or other approved national academic recognition, or a qualifying group of researchers.
