The Organization for Autism Research (OAR) runs this annual competition to support students conducting independent research related to the assessment, intervention, and support of autistic people and their families. The program funds research studies at the graduate and post-graduate level, rather than tuition or the cost of earning a degree. Its goal is practical, clearly objective findings that help the autism community make informed choices and lead healthier and happier lives.
Priority research areas include assessment and treatment models, service systems, early intervention, school-based education, behavioral and communication interventions, and adult issues such as employment, continuing education, and housing. OAR also welcomes studies addressing family support, community integration, challenging behavior, augmentative or alternative communication across the lifespan, and interventions studied in the real-world settings where their outcomes will be used.
