The North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) offers competitive Graduate Student Research Awards to develop the next generation of marine scientists, researchers, and resource managers. The program supports master's and doctoral research on scientific, technological, and socioeconomic themes identified in the 2018 NPRB Science Plan. Research must advance understanding of the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands, or Chukchi/Beaufort Seas to enable effective management and sustainable use of marine resources.
Awards support graduate study and research addressing pressing fisheries management questions and ecosystem information needs. The program also emphasizes broader impacts, relevance to Alaskan communities and stakeholders, and communication of research results through scientific presentations and public outreach.
