The Mycological Society of America (MSA) recognizes outstanding graduate and undergraduate student presentations at its annual meeting through monetary prizes administered by the Student Awards Committee. These awards honor talks and posters presented at the meeting rather than funding a proposed research project. Students request consideration when submitting their meeting abstracts.
Each year, two graduate oral presentation prizes honor distinguished mycologists Meredith Blackwell and John W. Taylor, both recognized for their commitment to graduate students. Two additional prizes recognize the best graduate posters; these awards are currently unnamed. Undergraduate talks and posters are also recognized, with one or two awards given at the committee’s discretion. Recipients’ biographies and photos are published in Inoculum.
