Description
The Grant-In-Aid (GIA) Program is administered by the New Hampshire Bureau of Trails within the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources. It assists organized nonprofit off highway recreational vehicle (OHRV) and snowmobile clubs, as well as political subdivisions, with projects benefiting riders on public-use trails in New Hampshire. Eligible work includes maintaining existing trails, constructing or rerouting trails, purchasing and reconditioning maintenance equipment, grading, grooming, and improving trail safety.
OHRV clubs apply annually. Snowmobile clubs have summer rounds for trail work and equipment and winter rounds for grooming assistance and eligible parking-lot plowing. Funding comes from OHRV and snowmobile registration fees and unrefunded gas taxes dedicated to the program. Awards depend on anticipated registration revenue and may be reduced when revenues fall short.
