Description
Grants for Artists (GFA), administered by the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), supports artists’ livelihoods through funding for working or living expenses. The program provides holistic support rather than funding tied solely to a particular artwork, product, or project. Its goal is to strengthen Maryland’s creative workforce as a vital contributor to the state’s economy and culture.
The program serves independent artists with a sustained practice in dance, music, visual art, public art, folk and traditional arts, media arts, literary arts, or theatre. Applications establish eligibility rather than compete on artistic merit. MSAC staff review applications, then awards are allocated geographically and selected randomly within eligible county or jurisdiction pools.
