Description
The Phycological Society of America (PSA) administers Grants-in-Aid of Research to support graduate students and postdoctoral researchers with active research programs in any area of phycology. The grants defray research expenses and are intended to enable work that would not otherwise be possible. Established in 1987 for graduate research, the program expanded to include postdoctoral research in 2016. Funding comes from interest generated by the Education Fund of the PSA Endowment.
The program emphasizes the merit and impact of proposed research, clear research questions and experimental design, and the likelihood of successful completion. Support is directed toward research costs rather than stipends or institutional indirect costs. Critical techniques courses unavailable at the applicant’s home institution may also qualify for support.
