The Great American Getaway is administered by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office within the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). One of four Marketing to Attract Tourists programs, it supports destination marketing organizations and tourism-related businesses creating distinctive, thematic leisure experiences across Pennsylvania. Experiences may focus on outdoor recreation, history, culinary tourism, craft beverages, culture, or urban exploration.
Funding supports marketing assets and paid promotion for a cohesive collection of regional activities and attractions. The program encourages overnight stays, particularly from out-of-state markets, and experiences tailored to a destination’s highlights and target audiences. The broader tourism marketing effort seeks to reach the 72 million people living within a four-hour drive of Pennsylvania.
