Great Salt Lake Research Grant supports researchers studying the lake’s complexities through applied research, pilot projects, and information synthesis to inform management of the lake and its resources.

Description
The Utah Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands (FFSL) funds one- and two-year research projects that help resource managers understand Great Salt Lake’s complexities and improve management decisions. Funding comes from the Utah State Legislature. Projects should build on previous or current research, demonstrate their importance to the lake, and advance the Great Salt Lake Comprehensive Management Plan and the Great Salt Lake Commissioner’s Strategic Plan.
The program supports pilot projects, applied research, synthesis of new or existing information, development of research methods, application of existing knowledge, and identification of future research needs. Research addressing the program’s “hot topics” is encouraged, but work outside these topics is also considered when it significantly enhances lake knowledge or addresses management needs.
