Description
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) funds projects that increase the efficiency or effectiveness of waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting programs in Greater Minnesota. The program seeks to reduce material entering landfills while benefiting communities, the environment, and local economies. It supports eligible local and Tribal governments located outside the Twin Cities metro area.
The program reflects Minnesota’s waste management hierarchy, which prioritizes waste reduction and reuse over other waste management options. Waste reduction and reuse were added as eligible project activities to better align the grants with that hierarchy. Half of the available funding supports traditional recycling, with preference for projects contributing to Minnesota’s statutory recycling goals; the other half supports waste reduction, reuse, and composting.
