Description
The Washington State Department of Transportation’s Public Transportation Division administers this competitive grant program for cost-effective projects that reduce the carbon intensity of Washington’s transportation system. Eligible work includes battery-electric and fuel-cell transit vehicles, facility modifications or new facilities primarily supporting fleet electrification, charging and hydrogen fueling stations, electrical system upgrades, property rights, and staff directly managing capital construction. Zero-emission fleet transition planning may be funded if the Legislature appropriates money for it.
Selection considers carbon-reduction benefits and cost-effectiveness, the project’s contribution to a lower-carbon statewide transportation system, and environmental benefits for overburdened communities and vulnerable populations. The program is supported by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act and the Multimodal Account.
