Description
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) runs Growing Greener Plus to support three kinds of work: watershed restoration and protection, Surface Mining Conservation and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) bond forfeiture projects, and stormwater management planning under Act 167. Watershed grants address nonpoint source pollution through local planning, restoration, and protection, with the goal of restoring impaired waters or protecting degrading waters.
Projects may include stream and floodplain restoration, agricultural and stormwater best management practices, abandoned mine drainage work, and watershed assessments. DEP places increased emphasis on implementation in the Chesapeake Bay watershed that addresses pollutant loads critical to the Bay. Act 167 funding supports counties preparing a Phase I scope of study for a stormwater management plan.
