The award recognizes outstanding mentorship of undergraduate women in mathematics, honoring individuals who have demonstrated a significant commitment to supporting and guiding female students toward mathematical careers or advanced study. Established in memory of M. Gweneth Humphreys and funded by contributions from her former students and colleagues, this annual award celebrates the vital role of mentors in shaping the personal and professional development of women in mathematics. Recipients receive a cash prize, honorary certificate, and are featured in the AWM Newsletter. The award is presented at the Joint Mathematics Meetings each January.
