Description
The American Heart Association (AHA) supports early career researchers learning to use Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) clinical registry data to address gaps in care for patients with cardiovascular disease or stroke. This hospital-based quality improvement registry contains clinical and laboratory information abstracted from electronic health records at U.S. hospitals. Projects select one dataset: atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, heart failure, or stroke.
Research questions may examine inpatient care differences by sex, race, or insurance status; sex differences in guideline-directed medical therapy; clinical practice and prescription trends; or rural–urban hospital differences. The program combines mentored research with training in registry variables, feasibility assessment, manuscript proposals, and analysis through AHA’s Precision Medicine Platform. It seeks novel, feasible work that adds to existing research and advances scientific knowledge or clinical practice.
