Description
Administered by the Society for American Archaeology (SAA), this annual grant supports research on indigenous cultures of Mesoamerica, Central and South America, and the Caribbean, excluding the United States. It welcomes early-career and senior scholars whose projects promise transformative contributions to understanding precolumbian cultures.
Supported work includes archaeological survey, testing and excavation; archaeologically relevant art history and material culture studies; analysis of existing datasets and museum or university collections; and laboratory, dating and advanced technology-based research. Projects may establish a foundation for a longer-term research program, add a discrete component to an otherwise funded project, or complete research and analyses needed to make a long-term project's results publishable.
