Description
The Wildlife Conservation Board’s Habitat Enhancement and Restoration Program funds projects across California that restore habitat and protect wildlife values. The board’s first program, it now supports restoration work that falls outside WCB’s other mandated programs. Its scope covers all habitat types, including coastal areas, wetlands, and grasslands, as well as wildlife corridors and fisheries enhancements such as fish ladders and barrier removal.
The program carries forward WCB’s mission to restore California lands for wildlife and provide wildlife-oriented public access. Most program funding comes from the Habitat Conservation Fund and voter-approved bonds. Projects must be recommended by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and provide for long-term maintenance after completion.
