The Hagley Library’s Brandywine Dissertation Fellowship supports advanced graduate students actively working on dissertations that address important historical questions using Hagley’s research collections. The program seeks projects of superior intellectual quality with a persuasive methodology and significant reliance on Hagley research materials. Applicants must explain how their work contributes new information to previous scholarship and why the collections are pertinent to their research.
The three- to four-month residential fellowship provides time and facilities for dissertation research within Hagley’s scholarly community in Wilmington, Delaware. Hagley’s collections document the history of American business, technology, and society. Fellows participate in events organized by the Center for the History of Business, Technology, and Society, which administers Hagley’s grants and fellowships.
