Description
The Hanna H. Gray Fellows Program supports postdoctoral scientists with exceptional promise as future research leaders in basic biological and biomedical sciences. Run by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), it reflects the institute’s philosophy of supporting “people, not projects.” Fellows are expected to pursue bold, creative science and become models of scientific excellence and inclusive lab leadership, recruiting, mentoring, and inspiring trainees from varied backgrounds.
Beginning with the 2028 competition, Hanna Gray Fellows and Freeman Hrabowski Scholars are selected through one combined competition, with review specific to career stage. Fellows receive postdoctoral support, tailored professional development, and personalized faculty-search guidance through workshops and individual advising. They join HHMI’s scientific community through retreats and Science Meetings, with a pathway to the Freeman Hrabowski Scholars Program upon securing a qualifying faculty appointment.
