    Description

Harvard Library’s Houghton Library Visiting Fellowships support scholars at all career stages pursuing projects that require in-depth research on Houghton’s holdings. Fellows can draw on staff expertise, access other University libraries, participate in Harvard’s intellectual life, and exchange knowledge through Houghton’s publications and scholarly and public programs. Fifteen endowed fellowships support research across fields including American history, manuscripts, publishing, printing and graphic arts, dance, music, and theatre.

The library particularly welcomes proposals that reexamine its collections through a global lens or connect rare books and manuscripts to contemporary social, political, and cultural discourse. Although its collecting has historically emphasized European and Eurocentric North American culture, its primary sources also support research on Indigenous peoples of the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
