Description
The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), also known as 404 Mitigation, is funded by FEMA and administered in Oklahoma by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEM). It supports the identification and funding of cost-effective measures to prevent or reduce future loss of life and property and minimize future disaster response and recovery costs. It is not disaster relief for individual victims or a recovery program to repair damaged public property.
The related HMGP-Post Fire (HMGP-PF) program becomes available after a Fire Management Assistance Grant is approved for a wildfire. That funding must support wildfire-specific mitigation activities. For both Oklahoma programs, initial funding priority goes to jurisdictions within the declared areas.
