Description
This grant program, administered by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), funds projects aimed at reducing hazardous fuels and mitigating the risk of wildland fires in high-priority areas of Montana. The focus is on protecting communities and resources located within Hydraulic Unit Code 6 (HUC 6) watersheds that include National Forest Service (NFS) lands under active forest management, especially where prescribed burning is planned. Projects must be initiated in advance and within three years of planned hazardous fuels reduction activities on adjacent NFS lands. Eligible activities include thinning, pruning, slash disposal, pile burning, and public education to support wildfire risk reduction.
