Description

This European Commission Horizon Europe call supports research that advances understanding of the health of ecosystems and wild species, focusing on their physiology, genetic diversity, population distribution, and ecology in response to both existing and emerging stressors (such as climate change and pollution). The funding promotes the One Health approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of ecosystem, wildlife, human, domestic animal, and plant health, and aims to prevent and mitigate health threats through increased knowledge, monitoring, and policy integration.

Projects should:

• Describe the current and future health status of key ecosystems and wild species, including the impact of stressors driven by biodiversity loss.
• Develop benchmark protocols and indicators to assess risks and benefits of interlinkages among ecosystem, wildlife, domestic animal, plant, and human health.
• Analyze the impacts of ecosystem and wildlife health degradation on human health, including cost-benefit analyses of restoration and conservation.
• Provide actionable policy recommendations to mainstream One Health in policy frameworks.
• Ensure integration of social sciences and humanities to enhance societal impact.
• Cooperate with EU knowledge centers and partnerships (e.g., EC Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity, EU Biodiversa+, Animal Health and Welfare partnerships).
