Description

This opportunity provides supplemental funding to the currently funded CDC Prevention Research Centers (PRCs) to conduct Special Interest Projects (SIPs) focused on applied health promotion and disease prevention research. The SIPs aim to inform public health practice by supporting high-quality research conducted in real-world settings, with the goal of identifying, designing, testing, evaluating, and disseminating interventions or resources to prevent and reduce the leading causes of illness, disability, and death in the United States.

Ten SIP topics are expected for this cycle, including:

• Automating cancer survivorship care plans
• Using Medicare data to evaluate prostate cancer care
• Improving access to gynecologic oncologists for ovarian cancer patients
• Messaging and community approaches for alcohol reduction in cancer prevention
• Leveraging cancer registry data to improve clinical trial enrollment
• Visual aids for sunscreen application
• Weather-related emergency preparedness for cancer prevention/control
• Frameworks for improving prostate cancer care and support services
• Public health approaches to hereditary cancer prevention, detection, and treatment
• Research on emerging issues in chronic disease prevention and care
