The Healthcare Infection Society (HIS) Career Development Bursary addresses a gap in funding for continuing professional development (CPD) among career grade members. It supports formal courses, blended or online learning, workshops, shadowing, training and learning designed around an applicant’s particular development needs. Learning must have clear objectives and benefit professional development, service delivery or the wider profession.
Supported examples include outbreak response training, clinical audit coaching, behaviour change learning, systematic review courses, engineering aspects of infection control and standalone university modules. Complete postgraduate courses may be considered when their content is heavily focused on infection prevention and control (IPC). The scheme prioritises learning that fills knowledge gaps, addresses IPC challenges, benefits teams or organisations, and enables innovation in research or clinical practice. It does not fund research itself or conference attendance.
