Funder: Healthcare Infection Society
Due Dates (Anticipated): March 2027 (Round 1) | September 2027 (Round 2)
Funding Amounts: Up to £10,000 per project lasting 6 months to 2 years
Summary: Supports small-scale infection prevention and control research and proof-of-principle studies directly relating to nosocomial infections.
Key Information: The primary grant holder must be a HIS member at submission, and both holder and institution must be UK- or Republic of Ireland-based.
The Healthcare Infection Society (HIS) funds pioneering, innovative research in infection prevention and control (IPC) and nosocomial infections. Small Research Grants support local projects addressing well-defined, concise questions about IPC or healthcare-associated infections. Proposals must demonstrate an understanding of clinical IPC practice and align with the priority research themes in the HIS Research Strategy 2025–2030.
The scheme supports proof-of-principle data that can underpin applications for larger grants, further hypothesis testing, and new collaborations between clinicians and researchers. It also encourages interdisciplinary research and the development of consortia for specific funding calls. Its underlying aim is to strengthen the research evidence supporting clinical best practice.
