Description
The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) runs the HEAL Community Capacity Grant to help communities most affected by environmental hazards collaborate with state agencies on environmental health decisions. The program aims to build climate resilience, strengthen community-led decision-making, and reduce environmental and health disparities under the Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act. It is funded through Washington’s Climate Commitment Act and guided by the Environmental Justice Council’s funding recommendations and budget priorities.
Project funding supports community input on implementation of the HEAL Act, updates to the Environmental Health Disparities Map, and state agencies’ environmental justice assessments, budgets, funding, and community and Tribal engagement. Passthrough funding enables community-based organizations to fund smaller organizations working with overburdened communities and vulnerable populations across Washington.
