Description
Heart & Stroke and Brain Canada provide annual Personnel Awards for Indigenous Scholars to increase Indigenous representation and strengthen the heart and brain health research workforce in Canada. The opportunity was co-created with First Nations, Inuit and Métis leaders at different career stages. Multi-year salary stipends help master’s and doctoral trainees focus on research, engage with mentors and develop their careers. UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies lists the opportunity; the program’s creation also involved CIHR’s Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health.
The program supports research addressing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health, including neurological conditions. Relevant work can address prevention, treatment or recovery related to heart conditions, stroke, vascular cognitive impairment, and associated mental health. Research spans biomedical, clinical, health services, and social, cultural, environmental and population health themes.
