Description
The American Heart Association’s Heart Transplantation Research Network supports investigators in developing detailed clinical trial protocols and competitive proposals for major follow-on funding. Planning activities include refining trial design, establishing research teams, preparing protocols and manuals of procedures, and developing data-management and research-oversight tools. The goal is a definitive trial testing diagnostic or therapeutic interventions that address gaps in heart transplantation care.
Clinical interests include immune tolerance, chronic rejection, infection prevention, prevention of malignancy and coronary allograft vasculopathy, and predictive biomarkers or surrogate endpoints. Artificial intelligence and other technologies enabling cost-effective personalization at scale are also of interest. The initiative seeks to strengthen evidence, reduce disparities, and improve long-term outcomes for adult and pediatric recipients.
