Description
The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) provides workforce training implementation and equipment grants, alongside technical assistance, to expand heat pump and HVAC training at community colleges. The program helps colleges establish or upgrade training centers, add staffing and training seats, and strengthen wraparound and retention services. Training serves Massachusetts residents entering HVAC mechanic and technician occupations or advancing their existing skills.
The network addresses technician shortages that threaten to slow building retrofits and decarbonization. Its priorities include hands-on instruction in ground- and air-source heat pumps and mini-splits, employer-informed training, job placement relationships, and support that reduces barriers to participation. The initiative implements Governor Maura Healey’s 2024 commitment to launch additional community college HVAC programs statewide.
