The Heisenberg Programme, offered by the German Research Foundation (DFG), is designed to enable outstanding researchers who have met all requirements for a permanent professorship to further build their academic reputation and prepare for a senior academic role. The programme provides up to five years of flexible support, allowing researchers to continue high-quality research at an institution of their choice in Germany. Four types of funding are available—Heisenberg professorship, Heisenberg position, Heisenberg temporary substitute position for clinicians, and Heisenberg fellowship—which can be selected or combined during the funding period. The programme is open to researchers from all disciplines who have achieved habilitation or equivalent qualifications, including those returning from abroad or appropriately qualified foreign researchers seeking an academic career in Germany.
