The Helmholtz Investigator Groups and Innovation Exploration Groups programs are designed to empower outstanding early-career researchers and postdoctoral scientists to establish and lead their own independent research groups at a Helmholtz Center, in close partnership with a university. The Standard Track targets researchers aiming for their first scientific leadership role, offering a pathway to permanent positions and professorships, while the Pilot Track supports postdocs in translating scientific discoveries into future applications, industry collaborations, or spin-offs, focusing on the pre-validation phase of innovation.
Researchers benefit from access to advanced research infrastructure, structured leadership training, and opportunities for professional development and scientific networking. The program aims to foster scientific independence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of innovative research directions relevant to Helmholtz research programs.
