Description
Established in 1955, the Henry Pickering Bowditch Award Lectureship is administered by the American Physiological Society (APS) to recognize a scientist who has made original and outstanding contributions to physiology. The award centers on recognizing research accomplishments and sharing the recipient’s work through a lecture at the American Physiology Summit.
The APS Executive Committee selects the recipient. In addition to presenting the lecture, the awardee selects up to 10 abstracts of distinction in their research field. The lecture may also be considered for publication in a Society journal of the recipient’s choosing. The lectureship honors Henry Pickering Bowditch, APS’s first president, who established the first university laboratory of experimental physiology in the United States at Harvard Medical School.
