Description
Connecticut Community Foundation administers these grants through the Earl and Shirley Herbst Eye Research Fund. The program promotes eye research, enhances community awareness of eye disease and treatment, and supports ophthalmic educational opportunities for area medical providers. Its supported activities span community health education, support for research institutions, and education and training for doctors and other health care providers involved in eye disease research.
The fund gives preference to Connecticut-based research and to Connecticut-based providers receiving education and training. Its scope includes both research and community-facing eye health work: past grants have supported vision care for Special Olympics athletes and an eye health fair offering education and information about assistive technology.
