Description
The Heritage Barn Rehabilitation Grant Program supports the stabilization and rehabilitation of historic barns and associated significant agricultural buildings in Washington. It is part of the state’s Heritage Barn Preservation Initiative, administered by the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP). The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation manages the grant program under contract with DAHP.
The initiative seeks to preserve agricultural structures while increasing awareness of their role in Washington’s history and economy. Grants support repairs that retain historic character and extend a building’s useful life. Selection considers historical significance, the urgency of repairs, prospects for long-term preservation, and the distribution of awards across the state.
