Description
Heritage Capital Projects is a Washington State Historical Society program established by the state legislature in 1995. It funds the physical facilities and sites through which people encounter Washington history, including community history facilities, historic buildings and landscapes, archaeological sites, and heritage-related transportation assets. Eligible capital work includes construction, rehabilitation, design, and property acquisition; the grant does not fund exhibitions or education programs.
The program follows the state’s two-year capital-budget cycle. After a two-stage application and public ranking meeting, a ranked list goes to the Governor and Legislature. Placement on that list does not guarantee an award; funding is confirmed only when the state capital budget is signed into law.
