Description
Arizona State Parks & Trails administers the Heritage Fund grants for historic preservation, non-motorized trails, and the acquisition or development of local and regional parks. Established by Arizona voters in 1990, the fund supports work that protects the state’s natural and cultural heritage and improves outdoor recreation. Heritage Fund awards are subject to annual appropriations.
The historic preservation portion is administered through the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). It supports rehabilitation of historic properties for public use, archaeological preservation and interpretation, and preservation planning, education, and program development. Historic preservation projects must demonstrate a direct public benefit.
