Description
The Rehabilitation of High Hazard Potential Dam Grant Program is a federal initiative administered by FEMA through the National Dam Safety Program. The Arkansas Natural Resources Division coordinates the program in Arkansas and provides subawards to eligible non-federal government entities and nonprofits. Its purpose is to reduce the risk to life and property from high-hazard dams that fall below minimum safety standards.
Supported work includes evacuation and community response planning, dam-risk and environmental studies, preliminary engineering, design, and public education about flood risks. Projects may also repair, rehabilitate, or remove a dam; monitor construction; or install an associated early warning system. State-specific eligibility criteria and funding timelines are determined annually.
