Description
The Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation runs this program, with grant management provided under contract by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation. Established in 2016, it aims to preserve examples of Washington’s historical heritage, help historic cemeteries continue serving their communities, and honor military veterans buried there.
Grants support capital projects that preserve a cemetery’s historic character, features, and materials or maintain and improve its functions. Examples include security measures, monument repair, conservation of historic features, interpretive signage, and landscape restoration. Projects must make significant, long-term improvements to existing facilities.
