Description
The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning, administers this competitive program to preserve and interpret the tangible remains of Maryland’s past. It supports architectural and archaeological surveys, historic structure reports, National Register nominations, historic contexts, oral history, cultural heritage documentation, archaeological collections enhancement, and cultural-resource documentation for emergency planning.
The program also funds heritage education materials, public programs, scholarly and general-audience publications, preservation plans, feasibility studies, and property assessments. Projects should contribute to preservation knowledge, public understanding, and long-term protection of Maryland’s resources. Building acquisition, major construction, and full rehabilitation are outside its scope. Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss eligibility and scope with MHT staff early in planning.
