Description
The South Carolina Department of Archives and History administers this competitive fund to preserve historic buildings through work that benefits local communities and the public. Eligible buildings are individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places, contribute to a listed historic district, or have been determined by the State Historic Preservation Office to be individually eligible for listing.
Planning Grants fund conditions assessments and bid-ready plans and specifications for stabilization and weatherization. Stabilization Grants fund bid-ready work to restore structural stability and a weather-resistant enclosure while maintaining the building’s essential form. Grant-funded work must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Applicants may seek one category, but not both, in a funding cycle.
