Description
United Cerebral Palsy of Middle Tennessee (UCP) coordinates wheelchair-ramp construction across Tennessee for people whose disabilities impair mobility and whose homes lack proper access. The Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) funds lumber and supplies for qualifying low-income applicants. Applicants who do not meet THDA household income criteria may still receive a ramp if they pay for the lumber.
UCP works with partner agencies and volunteers from churches, civic clubs, and other community groups to build the ramps. More than 2,000 ramps have been constructed through the collaboration. Funding limitations have created waiting lists, and construction schedules depend on volunteer availability.
