Description
The Homeless Animals Support Network Fund, administered by the Community Foundation, provides as-needed assistance to small, underfunded animal rescues and shelters throughout Virginia. Entrusted to the foundation in 2023, it builds on HASN’s work, which began in Prince William County in 2012 and expanded statewide. Its goal is to bridge resource gaps for homeless pets and underserved and impoverished communities while advancing a No-Kill VA.
The fund welcomes new programs and improvements to existing services that respond to community needs. Supported examples include fostering to prevent shelter entry, return-to-home programs using technology and microchipping, shelter-surrender prevention, and temporary fostering for pets of domestic violence victims or owners facing traumatic circumstances. Community outreach may include spay/neuter services, vaccines, behavioral assistance, food, supplies, and medical treatment for pets of homeless or low-income owners.
